Environmental & Sustainability Policy

We're a social enterprise that believes in the power of great service.

Introduction & Vision

Our organisation is committed to minimising environmental impact and embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations. We recognise our responsibility to protect the planet, support communities, and ensure long-term resilience through ethical and sustainable practices. Given our operations, we are especially focussed on IT Asset lifecycle management where we can make the biggest difference to the environment, economy and the communities in which we operate.

Purpose & Scope

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, and partners. It covers:

  • Office operations and facilities
  • Procurement and supply chain
  • IT asset lifecycle management
  • Community engagement and projects

Principles & Commitments

We will:

  • Comply with all relevant UK environmental legislation and sustainability standards
  • Integrate circular economy principles into our operations taking guidance from Circular Communities Scotland
  • Promote responsible consumption and waste reduction
  • Encourage innovation for sustainable solutions

Environmental Objectives

We are committed to maximizing the value of IT asset lifecycle management. This responsibility applies not only to our own equipment but also to devices we process on behalf of our customers and the wider community. Our objectives are both economic and environmental. When an IT device approaches the end of its life, we follow a series of steps before considering recycling:

  • Secure Data Erasure - All data on the device is securely erased to ensure confidentiality and compliance.
  • Repurposing Within the Originating Organisation - Where possible, the device is redeployed within its original organisation. This may include allocation to departments or users with occasional or limited computing needs, such as seasonal workers, public access areas, drop-in centers, or job clubs.
  • Community Reuse - If the device is no longer required by the originating organisation, we securely erase all data and, where feasible, repurpose it for community benefit. Examples include providing a computer to a family without one, supporting a child’s educational needs, or assisting individuals engaged in job searches.
  • Responsible Recycling - If repurposing is not possible, we securely wipe the device and work with our recycling partner, SK Tes, to dismantle it into component parts for recycling. Under no circumstances will IT equipment be sent directly to landfill.
